When I first seen that Mary DeMuth was writing a new book called The Walls Around Your Heart, I knew that this book was for me. I have always buried and stuffed things in and with that it caused me to build walls around my heart. Walls that no one could penetrate, walls that I didn’t want removed. God thought otherwise and when I got the chance to review The Walls Around Your Heart I will be honest, it scared me because I am one of those who don’t like change.
Using the Lord’s Prayer, Mary walks us through how to knock down those walls not only with scripture but with her own personal stories of how she knocked down her walls and with the stories from others. The Lord’s Prayer from Matthew 6:9-13 (NLT) says, “Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.” When I read this exactly like she asked I knew it was time to knock down the walls, make amends and serve God the way I should be serving him.
Life is hard and people are mean, rude and sometimes they don’t care who they hurt. But when we see them as God sees them that’s when we know that God is faithful and we can trust Him with all of our relationships, even the broken ones and the ones that have yet to be made. Let God in and have control of your life and then you will be able to knock down those walls that are preventing you from a life that God has in store for you.
