Heavenly Romance

By Angela Ruth Strong

One of the things readers most often mention as intriguing about my book Finding Love in Sun Valley is the Bible study my heroine Emily does on the subject of water. She prays and she gets answers from her research into God’s word. Then she shares this study with my hero Tracen who also finds answers to his prayers through this same study.

There’s no huge conversion. There’s no enemy to overcome. There’s just the simplicity of people needing direction in their everyday life and finding that direction by seeking the wisdom God has already shared.

When I was invited to guest post on this blog, I decided to talk about prayer because the whole purpose for anything I write should be to point readers in the direction where they will find answers for their own lives. God’s there for us, and he wants to partner with us through prayer. This is a pretty cool idea because usually partners are considered equal. We are not God’s equal, but still he waits for us to act. He practically begs us in 2 Chronicles 7:14.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

God wants to heal us. But he’s got some pretty good boundaries. He’s not going to interfere unless we want him to. And you can actually see a formula for this in his book:

  • Someone prays.
  • Heaven opens.
  • Stuff happens.

Elijah prayed for rain. The disciples were in prayer when the sound of a rushing wind from heaven filled the upper room and they were filled with the Holy Spirit. And even Jesus prayed before heaven opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in the form of a dove. That’s some pretty amazing stuff.

Prayer doesn’t have to be complicated. It just has to be honest. One of my favorites is, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” from Mark 9:24.

I may be an author, but God is the author of life. And you get to talk to him about your life story. Ask him what he’s plotted out for you. Ask him for the strength to overcome obstacles. Ask him to redeem you.

As much as I hope you like my book Finding Love in Sun Valley, I want your life story to be better. I want stuff to happen for you. I want it to be heavenly.

Finding Love in Sun Valley CoverAngela’s new book Finding Love in Sun Valley Idaho is out now and it is a great book that you will not want to miss out on. Here is a snippet of what it is about: Actress Emily Van Arsdale has returned to her Idaho hometown – with an entire film crew in tow! With its stunning scenery and reputation for hosting celebrities, Sun Valley is the perfect setting for Emily’s newest romantic comedy. Tracen Lake is happy to work as a stunt consultant for the movie but not as thrilled to deal with a bunch of high-maintenance Hollywood types. But Tracen is surprised to discover in Emily a down-to-earth Idaho girl who does all her own stunts and loves the outdoors. As filming wraps up and Emily heads off to her next gig, will she be able to leave Sun Valley – and Tracen – behind?

  3. My quiet time in the Word yesterday was in 1 Kings and I was reading about Elijah’s prayer for rain, and the prophets of Baal who tried to bring down fire. What a powerful prayer Elijah prayed, combined with faith that God would actually answer. A true faith booster. I appreciated your faith and scripture references in your book.

  4. How interesting to do a study on water! I love the idea of partnering with someone on that level. We’ll definitely never be equal to God. My husband and I just read that chapter in Mark last night!

  5. I love that your book shows how to appropriate faith in the context of real life (just like the last time I showed up in my hometown with a film crew). 😉 Seriously though, we’ve been commissioned to make disciples, and teaching how to study God’s Word and pray definitely falls in line with that. Thank you, Angela! I can’t wait to read it!
