Fear Fighting
Kelly Balarie

About the Book:
Paperback3DTemplates_5.5x8.5.indd
We all live with fear. It hangs around, whispering in our ears, reminding us of all we can’t do or will never be. But that’s not the end of the story. We also have a God who draws close to say, Fear not. I am with you. This Spirit transforms us into fear fighters–women breaking free of trepidation to find bold dedication to God’s peace-, purpose- and joy-filled callings.

With remarkable compassion born from personal experience, Kelly Balarie shows women how to

· Cultivate unstoppable faith by harnessing God’s Word and promptings
· Pray panic-, blood pressure- and stress-reducing prayers to usher in lasting peace
· Discover clear and immediate action plans to exchange worry for God’s greatest gifts
· Implement daily bravery decrees to stand armed through the day
· Participate in a 12-week study guide to foster new courageous habits

Kelly pulls back the curtain of fear so you can find the beautiful woman God created you to be.

About the Author:
kellypic
Kelly Balarie is a passionate national speaker who has spent nearly ten years leading groups of women in spiritual growth, marriage building, and general Bible studies across the nation. She has lived her subject matter. Her faith was built as she battled through a debilitating eating disorder, depression, multiple sclerosis testing and concerns, company failures, family deaths, job losses, and times without income or money. Throughout difficult circumstances, Kelly has looked past the pain to uncover the beauty of God’s always-developing purposes for her life. Her greatest desire is to share this treasured beauty with other women who need a fresh drink of God’s grace and restoration. Kelly is a featured blogger at Crosswalk.com and iBelieve.com. Her work has been featured on Relevant, (in)courage.me and was also the cover story on Today’s Christian Woman. She lives with her husband and two toddlers near the sun-soaked shores of the East Coast.

My Review:

Fear is something we all suffer from. Some fear death, some fear loosing a loved one, some fear finances, the list can go on and on. Fear can control us if we let it, it can ruin our lives causing us to shut people out of our lives but most importantly it can cause us to loose faith in God. I will be the first to say that fear is my worst enemy, fear never leaves me alone, its like that annoying person who you wish would take a hint and leave. But what if we cut the cord with Fear, what would happen? Would we feel free able to carry on a life of meaning, carry on a relationship with God, the One who loves us unconditionally?

There are ways to learn to fight fear and one of those ways is with Kelly Balarie’s new book Fear Fighting: Awakening Courage to Overcome Your Fears. When this book arrived in my mail box, I was apprehensive at first because I have tried a lot of ways to fight fear and nothing was working, but after I began reading Kelly’s story, I knew I could fight fear too. Kelly uses her own personal story along with showing women how to cultivate unstoppable faith by harnessing God’s Word and promptings, prayers to usher in a lasting peace, how to discover clear and immediate action plans, implement daily bravery decrees and participate in a 12-week study to guide that will foster new courageous habits.

Take it from someone who doesn’t feel courageous, who hates change, who lets fear walk over her, that if this book can change her life, it will change yours. Kelly’s book was a life saver for me and it is one that I will keep close by because I know Fear will rear its ugly head and I will be ready to take a stand a not let fear control me any longer.

I received a copy of this book for free, however a favorable review was not required of me and all opinions expressed are my own.

The Women of Easter

The Women of Easter

Liz Curtis Higgs

About the Book:

9781601426826This Season of Grace,
Deepen Your Faith in God
Who So Loved the World
that He Gave Us His Son.

You’re about to meet three women named Mary, each of whom has a life-changing encounter with Jesus. Mary of Bethany prepares the way for the Lord’s burial when she anoints His feet and fills the air with her perfume. His mother, Mary of Nazareth, remains by His side from His first breath to His last, her loyalty unwavering. Mary Magdalene, delivered of seven demons, bravely supports her Teacher through His darkest hours and then proclaims the glorious news of His resurrection.

What a trio. What a Savior!

Your mind and emotions will be engaged and your faith strengthened as each scene unfolds, preparing your heart for a richer, deeper Easter experience. Liz Curtis Higgs, a seasoned Bible teacher and award-winning novelist, combines her storytelling skills with a thorough verse-by-verse study of Scripture as together you explore the remarkable lives of the women of Easter.

“Liz Curtis Higgs is one of the most amazing teachers of God’s Word that I have ever experienced. Her in-depth knowledge of the Scriptures, gifting as a communicator, and personal relationship with the Lord make her unmatched in the ability to take biblical truth and make it applicable to anybody.”

—Priscilla Shirer, New York Times best-selling author of Fervent

About the Author: 12930

Liz Curtis Higgs admits, “My goal is simple: to help women embrace the grace of God with joy and abandon!”

Her latest release, 31 Verses to Write on Your Heart, explores the favorite verses chosen by more than a thousand women. It’s Good to Be Queen encourages readers to become as bold, gracious, and wise as the queen of Sheba, who journeyed across the desert to test the mind and heart of King Solomon. Liz also offers a twenty-first century take on the book of Ruth in The Girl’s Still Got It, dishing out meat and milk, substance and style, in a highly readable, always entertaining, and deeply personal journey.

And you’ll find a heartwarming Bible study wrapped inside a beautiful gift book with The Women of Christmas. Verse by verse, Liz unwraps the biblical stories of Elizabeth, Mary, and Anna, who each welcome the Christ child into the world in a marvelous and miraculous way.

In her best-selling series of Bad Girls of the Bible books and videos, Liz breathes new life into ancient tales about the most infamous–and intriguing–women in scriptural history, from Jezebel to Mary Magdalene. Biblically sound and cutting-edge fresh, these popular titles have helped more than one million women around the world experience God’s grace anew.

Liz’s award-winning historical novels, which transport the stories of Rebekah, Leah, Rachel, Dinah, Ruth, and Naomi to eighteenth-century Scotland, also invite readers to view these familiar biblical characters in a new light.

According to Publishers Weekly, “Higgs is a stickler for period authenticity.” To that end, Liz has traveled again and again to Scotland, the setting for her novels, and has filled her shelves with one thousand resource books about Scottish history and culture.

Also a gifted professional speaker, Liz has presented more than 1,700 inspirational programs for audiences in all fifty United States and fourteen foreign countries. When the National Speakers Association honored her with the Council of Peers Award for Excellence, Liz became one of only 35 women in the world named to their CPAE-Speaker Hall of Fame.

On the personal side, Liz is married to Bill Higgs, Ph.D., who serves as Director of Operations for her speaking and writing office. Liz and Bill enjoy their old Kentucky home, a nineteenth-century farmhouse in Louisville, and are the proud (and relieved) parents of two college grads.

“I have three abiding passions: encouraging my sisters in Christ, exploring the stories of women in the Bible, and writing novels set in Scotland of old. When I’m not traveling, speaking, or spinning a story, I connect with readers online, take copious photos, read historical novels, watch period films, and immerse myself in research–the more books, the merrier. I’m a lame housekeeper, a marginal cook, and a mediocre gardener, but home is still my favorite place to land.”

My Review:

In The Women of Easter, Liz Curtis Higgs takes us deeper into the lives of three women, Mary Magdalene, Mary of Nazareth, and Mary of Bethany. Each of these three Mary’s were a part of Jesus’ life, each one has her own story to tell. One his mother, one who He cast demons out of, and one who prepares the way for His burial.

This book will give you a deeper Easter experience from one of the best Bible teachers around today. Combined with Ms. Higgs’ storytelling skills, she uses her astounded study of scripture to explore each of these women’s lives.

I really enjoyed digging deeper into the lives of these three ladies, who were there with Jesus. After reading, I have a new take on the Easter story and look forward to reading this book again and again. If you are looking for a great book that combines great Bible study with storytelling then The Women of Easter is the book for you.

Listen Love Repeat Review with Giveaway

Listen Love Repeat
Karen Ehman

About the Book:

th
Our culture is self-obsessed – in our schedules, relationships, and especially online. (Can you say selfie?) But in this near-narcissism, people are less content than in decades past. Why? Because we forgot the joy that comes from putting others first. Doing so requires us to live alert, listening for “heart drops,” hints from those in our lives who need a helping hand or a generous dose of encouragement. Living alert lifts our own spirits, showing us that blessing others blesses us even more.
Listen, Love, Repeat offers biblical teaching and suggests doable actions that are simple, heart-tugging, sentimental, even sneaky and hilarious. This message:
• Presents scriptural examples of those who lived alert, including Jesus, who noticed those who least expected to be seen.
• Explains the role of good works for followers of Christ. They aren’t our ticket to heaven but they are our marching orders on earth.
• Gives creative ideas for showing love to friends and family, and suggests practical ways to reach out to the lonely, the marginalized, the outcast, and the odd duck. Additionally, it helps you comfort the grieving, showing what you can do when you don’t know what to say.
• Provides inspiration for blessing the “necessary people” in your life, those often-overlooked souls who help you get life done every day, and teaches you how to hug a porcupine by genuinely loving the hard-to-love.
As we scatter love, we create a safe space where we can openly share the gospel. We get to see lives changed right before our eyes. Most importantly, Listen, Love, Repeat will enable you to live a life that is full of kind deeds, not to selfishly shout, “Hey! Look at me!” but to humbly implore, “Will you look at Him?”

About the Author:

Karen has been a guest on national media outlets including The 700 Club, At Home Live, FamilyLife, Engaging Women, The Harvest Show, Moody Midday Connection, and Focus on the Family.

She has been married for over a quarter-century to her college sweetheart Todd and together they raise their three sometimes quarrelsome but mostly charming children in the boondocks of central Michigan. There she enjoys antique hunting, farm market strolling, and processing life with family, friends, and the many teens that gather around her kitchen island for a taste of Mama Karen’s cooking.

You can connect with Karen at karenehman.com where she helps women to live their priorities and love their lives.

My Review:

When I heard Karen Ehman was releasing a new book and I seen the title, I knew this book was written for me. Listen Love Repeat: Other-Centered Living In A Self-Centered World came at the time I needed it most. It seems that everyone is too busy, they are always worried about the things they need to do or want to do and fuss and complain that there is not enough hours in the day. What we need to do is slow down, breath and turn our focus on to God and showing love.

Listen, Love, Repeat has biblical teaching and also has suggestions about different actions that we can do. Giving scriptural examples of those who lived alert, explains the role of good works for followers of Christ, gives creative ideas for showing love and provides inspiration for blessing the “necessary people” in your life.

This book has taught me how to show love to those who are often overlooked and how I’m creating a safe space where I can openly share the gospel. It’s amazing to see lives changed. I can promise you one thing, this is one book you will find yourself going back to over and over again. Karen has a done it again, written another great book.

Uninvited

Uninvited
Lysa TerKeurst

About the Book:

_140_245_book-1988-cover

The enemy wants us to feel rejected . . . left out, lonely, and less than.
In Uninvited, Lysa shares her own deeply personal experiences of rejection–from the perceived judgment of the perfectly toned woman one elliptical over to the incredibly painful childhood abandonment by her father. She leans in to honestly examine the roots of rejection, as well as rejection’s ability to poison relationships from the inside out, including our relationship with God.

With biblical depth, gut-honest vulnerability, and refreshing wit, Lysa will help you:

• Stop feeling left out by believing that even when you are overlooked by others you are handpicked by God.
• Change your tendency to either fall apart or control the actions of others by embracing God-honoring ways to process your hurt.
• Know exactly what to pray for the next ten days to steady your soul and restore your confidence in the midst of rejection.
• Overcome the two core fears that feed your insecurities by understanding the secret of belonging.

Uninvited reminds us we are destined for a love that can never be diminished, tarnished, shaken, or taken–a love that does not reject or uninvite.

My Review:

Lysa TerKeurst has written many powerful books for women. Her newest best seller is Uninvited: Living Loved When You Feel Less Than, Left Out, and Lonely. This is one of those step on your toes, go through 3 highlighters, 3 pens, and 2 journals full of notes kind of book.

I honestly can’t count how many times I have felt rejected, left out and lonely. Reading Uninvited I was happy to know that I wasn’t the only who ever felt this way. Wanting to kick the enemy to the curb and take back my life is exactly the instruction you will receive from Uninvited. There are so many quotes you will find yourself writing down and using every day to fight the rejection. One of those is “Rejection steals the best of who I am by reinforcing the worst of what’s been said to me. Rejection isn’t just an emotion we feel. It’s a message that’s sent to the core of who we are, causing us to believe lies about ourselves, and God.” The enemy tries every way to get us to turn away from God and we can’t let him when.
I really learned so much from this book and I definitely recommend this book to everyone. If you want to dig deeper, there is also a study guide and DVD available. Take the next step to getting over rejection and telling the enemy to leave you alone. Pick up a copy of Uninvited today.

Discover the Truth About
God’s Sovereignty
from the Bible’s Really Bad Girls.

Eight of the Bible’s most notorious females strut across the pages of Really Bad Girls of the Bible with troubles that still hit home in the twenty-first century.
The Medium of En Dor crossed over to the dark side. Jael stood up to a ruthless enemy. The Adulteress was caught between a rock and a hard place. Athaliah made a bid for power that ended badly. Bathsheba captured the wandering eye of a king. Herodias made a cruel request of her husband. Tamar exchanged her widow’s weeds for a harlot’s garb. And the Bleeding Woman had a serious health issue only a great physician could handle.
“Higgs does such a remarkable job telling their stories that many of the Good Book’s ‘bad girls’ become downright sympathetic.… Higgs is a refreshingly astute biblical commentator…(and) ably points readers to ‘good girl’ tips they can apply from the Bible’s cautionary tales.”

Reset: Jesus Changes Everything by Nick Hall

41fyH2T-5KLReset: Jesus Changes Everything

Nick Hall

About the Book:

Let Jesus Be Your Reset

Do you want to make a difference with your life, but you’re having trouble moving on from your past? “Follow me,” Jesus told his early followers, “and I’ll show you life as it was meant to be lived.”

Nick Hall reminds us that Jesus says the same thing to us today: “Trust me. Follow me. Come to me dirty, and I’ll clean you up. Come broken, and I’ll reassemble the parts. Come desperate, and I’ll replace pain with joy. Come to me with all your questions, all your confusion, all your fear. I can reset your purity, your self-image, your faith. Come.”

Whatever has been holding you back, a reset is available to you by the grace of God. Say yes to the life you were meant to live.

About the Author:

Nick Hall is the visionary of Together 2016, author of the forthcoming book Reset, and the Founder and Chief Communicator for PULSE. His passion is to “awaken culture to the reality of Jesus.” Since 2006 Nick has shared the Gospel with nearly three million students at PULSE and partnership events around the world. Nick is married to his best friend, Tiffany; they live in Minneapolis, MN. They are proud parents of Truett and Ruby.

My Review:

How many times have you heard the words “Do you trust me?” I know I have heard those words too many times and when you tell the person you don’t trust them and they decide that they need to end the relationship whether it be your spouse, friend, or pastor. In all reality, that is not the way to react to the answer that was given. All Jesus wants from us to trust Him but how many times do we say we do trust you Lord and then proceed to do things on our own because we don’t trust Him. Does He turn his back on us? No!

Nick Hall has written a book that will help each of us learn to reset our lives and listen to Jesus! All God has asked us is to follow, to trust, to come to Him whether we are broken, dirty, desperate, confused, or have questions. What does it mean to truly follow Christ and reset our lives on Him! Nick takes us through stories of his own life, and stories from the Bible to illustrate to us his principles. Packed with all the information needed to reset every area of our life such as faith, plans, self-image, relationships, purity and habits.

Reset is the book every Christian needs to have on their bookshelf.

About the Book:

Do your desires have you going around in circles? You may be looking for fulfillment in all the wrong places.

You vowed you’d never repeat the same mistakes—yet you find yourself right where you started. What is it that keeps drawing you back into the same old traps? The fact is, your longings are built from the blueprint of your needs: for protection, for love, for God. And those needs aren’t going anywhere.

Sheila speaks candidly about the trials in her life, including the heartache of her first marriage, and intertwines her story with the biblical saga of King David. As both Sheila’s and David’s stories make clear, some cravings are misguided, but they all stem from the same hunger—and they will haunt you until that hunger gets satisfied properly.

If you keep reaching out to the wrong people at the wrong times in your own life, The Longing in Me will help you understand that your cravings are not the problem. It’s where they lead you that makes all the difference.

My Review:

I first heard of Sheila Walsh 6 years ago when I first attended a Women of Faith event. When I heard her speak, I knew I had to find her books and begin reading them. She impacted my life greatly and I knew it was a God thing that I was able to go to WOF at the last moment. Since then I have read almost all of Sheila’s books and heard her speak two more times. When I first seen she was coming out with a new book, The Longing In Me, I knew I would be in for a treat. I was honored to be chosen to be on her launch team as well as be able to review this book for the publisher.

The Longing In Me is the book for any woman who is ready to make a change in their lives and let God lead you. Sheila is open and honest about the trials in her life and intertwines her story with the story of King David. This book is for those women who find themselves going in circles, making the same mistakes over and over again, and whose looking for fulfillment in all the wrong places. Sheila dives in and gives an accurate account of scripture and goes in details with the story of David.

I constantly find myself making the same mistakes over and over again and keep asking why do I this? Simply put, I’m not trusting God enough. I know I can change this with the help from a God who loves me. This book is a life changer and I highly recommend it to anyone who is ready to change. Change is hard but you don’t have to do it alone!!

81XvUZ11ocLAnger: Taming a Powerful Emotion
Gary Chapman

About the Book:

Are you handling your anger, or is your anger handling you?
Life is full of frustrations—some big, some little. And while you might not be ready to blow a gasket, it’s easy to get angry in the wake of rejection, hurt, or embarrassment—and anger can have a really tight grip.
In Anger: Taming a Powerful Emotion, Dr. Gary Chapman offers helpful (and sometimes surprising) insights into why you get angry and what you can do about it. Using real-life examples of transformed lives and relationships, Chapman explains how to:
• Recognize the difference between “bad” and “good” anger
• Use anger to motivate you toward positive change
• Release long-simmering resentment
• Teach others (like your children) how to deal with anger
Anger is a reality of life, but it doesn’t have to control our lives. Learn how to handle anger and use it for good.
Includes reflection questions in each chapter; a 13-session discussion guide that’s perfect for small groups, workplace studies, and book clubs; and a personal anger assessment designed to help you see how you manage anger.

My Review:

Anger is an issue we all deal with, whether we use this emotion all the time or once in awhile. I will be the first to admit, I have big issue with anger. I used to get mad at the slightest little thing, if someone said the wrong thing to me, or if something didn’t go my way I was blowing my top. I blamed my parents for my anger issues, growing up in a home full of yelling and the slightest thing would cause your dad to blow his gasket, you learned to be reserved but in the mean time you were learning that this is how you handle everything.

When I was given the opportunity to read Gary Chapman’s new book, Anger, I couldn’t wait. I had already came to grips with my problem and sought help from God, counseling, and Celebrate Recovery, but knew I needed something else. Anger: Taming A Powerful Emotion will help you, recognize the difference between “bad” and “good” anger, how to use anger to motivate you toward a positive change, release long-simmering resentment, and how to teach others how to deal with anger (especially your children).

Anger is part of life but it doesn’t have to control your life and make everyone scared of you. Learning how to handle it is the key. This book has helped me tremendously and has helped me teach my daughters about anger. Another great thing about this book is it comes with reflection questions at the end of each chapter as well as a discussion guide you could use with a small group, and a personal anger assessment to see how you manage your anger.

I highly recommend this book to everyone!!
