”No matter your situation, you have a choice. I chose joy.”

Roxane Battle was on television for much of her adult life. As a news reporter and anchor, she traveled the world and met notable people from Jay Leno to Mariah Carey to Prince. But shortly after landing her dream job in her hometown of Minneapolis, Roxane’s marriage fell apart. Every day was a battle to keep it together on camera while piecing her life back together at home as the single mom of eleven-month-old Jarod. At one point, broke and alone, dinner was a single chicken McNugget. With wit, dignity, and gripping detail, Roxane shares her story of intentionally looking for joy during this challenging chapter of her life. Her faith was the guiding force as she searched for moments of gratitude and found a lifetime of grace. She also includes secrets to spiritual, professional, and personal wholeness for today’s woman, with chapters on authenticity, service, generosity, gratitude, self-care, yielding, forgiveness, and more.

Guest post from Roxane Battle

What this book is about is the season in my life when I was on my own and overwhelmed with trying to put my life back together while I learned how to raise a child and navigate a demanding television

career. A working, divorced single mom. That was me. For years.

There were many days when I smiled in front of the camera and cried alone at night. During those years, my time in the wilderness, I learned a lot about myself.

I am now at a point when I am able, willing, and desire to share the very personal and intimate stories of how I found peace in the midst of my struggles. I discovered what I call pockets. Pockets of joy. The kind of joy that causes your eyes to mist and wash over the hurt. The kind of joy that catches you by surprise and for a moment makes you forget, if ever so briefly, that you ever felt pain. The kind of joy that, in some ways, cannot even be described.

It is my hope and prayer my story will enable others to grasp a piece of the kind of joy I’m talking about and allow it to stir the kind of hope within that can renew and transform.

Gospel-Centered Mom

Gospel-Centered Mom
Brooke McGlothlin

About the Book:

It’s Time to Stop Trying to Be the Perfect Mom

You long to be the mom your kids need, but often you’re convinced you come up short. The label “not enough” seems to be stamped across everything you do—and yet parenting is the one thing you want most to get right.

What if the solution is simply to embrace the truth that you are not enough—but God is?

In Gospel-Centered Mom Brooke McGlothlin reveals how our entire approach to motherhood shifts when we stop chasing our vision of a perfect family and start full-out pursuing God. With refreshing candor, Brooke examines the daunting task of raising children in the light of God’s Word and challenges you to:

· embrace your moment-by-moment need for Jesus
· release the stress of believing everything is your responsibility
· learn to fight for rather than against your child
· believe that the story God is writing with your life is worth the sacrifice
· practice the daily disciplines that lead to Gospel-centered parenting

As you learn to anchor your life in the Gospel, you’ll find increased freedom, purpose, and joy in motherhood. And you’ll discover that Jesus is more than capable of meeting every need, for your children and for you.

About the Author:

Brooke McGlothlin is cofounder and president of Raising Boys Ministries and The MOB (Mothers of Boys) Society, an online community for BoyMoms. The author of several books and resources for mothers, her words of encouragement and inspiration have been featured on LifeWay’s ParentLife blog, the Proverbs 31 Devotional Site, and Ann Voskamp’s A Holy Experience. Brooke lives in the mountains of southwest Virginia with her husband and their two sons.

My Review:

I can honestly admit that I am one of those mothers who is always hard on herself, tells herself you are not the mom you need or should be, and always wish that I can be the mom that I see others have. It wasn’t until I read Gospel Centered Mom that I had a new approach on being a mom. I’m not perfect and will never be, but I serve a loving God who is perfect. Brooke McGlothlin explains what happens when we stop chasing a vision of a having a perfect family and start full-out pursuing God. She talks about the task of raising children in the light of God’s word and challenges each of us to several practices like: embracing your moment-by-moment need for Jesus, releasing the stress of believing everything is your responsibility, learning to fight for rather than against your child, believing that the story of God is writing with your life is worth the sacrifice, and practicing the daily disciplines that lead to Gospel-centered parenting.

I know first hand how different your children act when you are raising them in a God-centered home. When we were doing daily devotionals, our girls listened, they did their homework, they did their chores and they enjoyed going to church. When life got to busy and we stopped the devotions things changed. That is why Daily Devotions are very important in our home.

I have found this book to be a must read for all moms. It has opened my eyes to the things that I need to start doing and to the things I don’t need to waste my time on.

About the Book:

The World Does Not Define You!
Nobody said your life would be easy. And the older you get, the more difficult it seems to become. Guest Post from Kathy Ide

I’ve always loved Christian fiction, and I’ve seen the power of fiction to touch hearts and change lives, both firsthand and hearing about the experiences of others. But you know, in my quiet times with the Lord, reading a chapter from a novel just doesn’t seem quite appropriate. So a devotional with short fiction stories seemed like a great solution. And you can take these purse-sized devotionals wherever you go, to read when you have a few minutes of down time. It’s a great way to get “inspiration on the go.” And they make fantastic gifts for friends and loved ones.

Craving Connection

Craving Connection: 30 Challenges for Real-Life Engagement
(in)Courage and Crystal Stine

About the Book:

screen-shot-2017-01-05-at-1-32-46-pmWe all long for meaningful relationships, the Colossians 3:14 kind that fulfill our desire for unity and connection with God, our friends, and our community. But where do we start? Craving Connection is a journey with (in)courage writers sharing real-life stories, practical Scripture application, and connection challenges that will encourage you to:

* Embrace the desire God has given each of us for connection
* Invest in meaningful relationships, right where God has you
* Become the friend you wish you had
The (in)courage community invites you to grab a cup of coffee, pull up a chair to the table, and commit to creatively and prayerfully fulfilling your cravings for connection. How could your life be different after prayerfully and intentionally connecting with God, friends, and your community?

About the Author:

At (in)courage you are welcome to a place of faith, connection and friendship, where you will always find yourself among friends. Founded in 2009 by DaySpring, the Christian subsidiary of Hallmark Cards, Inc., the vision for (in)courage was to create a new home for the hearts of women, where women take turns pulling up a chair to share their stories of what Jesus looks like in their everyday, gloriously ordinary, and often messy lives. Since then, (in)courage has grown into a vibrant community that reaches thousands of women every day, welcoming them just the way they are, offering a space to breathe, loving support, and resources for meaningful connection.

Crystal Stine serves as editor of this (in)courage series. A self-proclaimed “accidental community builder,” Crystal is a coffee & chocolate loving, full-time working mama married to her high-school sweetheart. Crystal is passionate about cultivating a community where faith, fitness, and friendship come together. Author of “Creative Basics: 30 Days to Awesome Social Media Art,” she is a speaker and host of Write 31 Days. Crystal writes regularly at crystalstine.me and offers encouragement on Twitter and Instagram as @crystalstine and lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, Matt, and daughter, Madison.

My Review:

I often find it hard to connect with people, I consider myself more of a introvert then extrovert. I would rather be alone, with a good book then at a get together with a lot of people. That wasn’t how God created us, He created us to do life together, to have someone we can talk to. Meaningful relationships are meant for all us but some of us have a hard time finding those. Colossians 3:14 tells us “Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.” We all long for this type of relationship.

Craving Connection is written by the authors from (in)Courage, created in 2009 by DaySpring, (in)Courage is a community for women, a place of faith, connection, and friendship. Craving Connection gives us 30 challenges to have real-life engagement. Three sections: Connecting with God More Deeply, Connecting with Friends More Purposefully, and Connecting with Community More Intentionally, each section has 10 chapters in it. Each one begins with a Bible Verse, Consider statement and how to Engage. For example: Starting a New Thing by Crystal Stine Consider: God’s desire for relationship with us requires us to believe in a promise that brings change. Engage: Text or e-mail a note of encouragement to a friend and let her know she’s important to you. Isaiah 43:19: “Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.” (pg.6) At the end there is Connection questions and a connection challenge, and a prayer.

This is a book that I highly recommend to anyone that is looking for way to connect with people. If I can do this so can you!

The Prince Warriors and the Unseen Invasion

The Prince Warriors and the Unseen Invasion
Priscilla Shirer

About the Book:

thIn this second book in The Prince Warriors trilogy, the Prince Warriors face new challenges on earth and in the unseen realm of Ahoratos. The enemy, angry about his last defeat, is targeting them with weapons and tactics they had never imagined, including the flaming Olethron. The kids must turn to Ruwach and the Source, who can give them more pieces of armor to help them stand strong against this deadly threat.

About the Author(s):

priscillashirer2Priscilla Shirer is a homemade cinnamon-roll baker, Bible teacher, and bestselling author who didn’t know her books (The Resolution For Women and Fervent) were on The New York Times Bestseller list until somebody else told her. Because who has time to check such things while raising three rapidly growing sons? When she and Jerry, her husband of sixteen years, are not busy leading Going Beyond Ministries, they spend most of their time cleaning up after and trying to satisfy the appetites of these guys. And that is what first drove Priscilla to dream up this fictional story about the very un-fictional topic of spiritual warfare—to help raise up a new generation of Prince Warriors under her roof. And under yours.

Gina Detwiler was planning to be a teacher but switched to writing so she wouldn’t have to get up so early in the morning. She’s written a couple of books in various genres (Avalon and Hammer of God, under the name Gina Miani) and dramas published by Lillenas and DramaMinistry, but she prefers writing (and reading) books for young people. She lives in Buffalo, New York, where it snows a lot, with her husband and three beautiful daughters. She is honored and grateful to be able to work with Priscilla on The Prince Warriors.

My Review:

The Prince Warriors series has been one that my girls love. I haven’t had my daughters to beg me for a book then when the first book came out. They were fighting over who was going to read it first. When I was given the opportunity to review book 2 in The Prince Warriors series: The Prince Warriors and the Unseen Invasion, I knew I had to get it. Priscilla Shirer as outdone herself with these books, even though they are geared to boys, girls will enjoy them also. I love how these books are teaching our kids about God in a way they can understand. I absolutely am a huge fan of The Prince Warriors series and can’t wait to add the third book to my collection.

Along with book two, Priscilla has a devotional and a activity book to help them dive deeper into God’s word. If you are looking to purchase books for your children then I highly recommend getting The Price Warriors Series. You will not be disappointed and neither will your kids.
