21 Days of Love Blog Tour/Giveaway

My Review:

21 Days of Love is a collection of short stories that celebrate, you guessed it, love. Love is an emotion or feeling that we have for others, like relationships, marriage, dating, and for family members as well as friends. One day a year we celebrate love, February 14th Valentine’s Day. Love can be celebrated any day of the year that we choose to celebrate it. There is one love that surpasses all types of love, Agape Love. Agape love is the love God has for us. We can’t show this type of love.

Each story in this collection recognizes a different type of love. Stories from the hearts of each of its writers. I really enjoyed reading each of these stories and reading about the different types of love represented. This collection of stories is the perfect gift for someone who needs an extra dose of love this Valentine’s.

“I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.”

Kick off the new year with love!

21 Days of Love: Stories that Celebrate Treasured Relationships, book 3 in the Fiction Lover’s Devotional series, contains short fiction stories about all kinds of love. Boyfriend-girlfriend. Husband-wife. Parent-child. Teacher-student. Even love for pets and showing love to strangers. Since the greatest love ever known is God’s abundant love for us, His children, the sustaining hand of our loving heavenly Father is woven throughout. Each story is written by a different author and is followed by a brief Life Application in which the author shares how the fictional story relates to our day-to-day lives.

21 Days of Love has chapters written by well-known, best-selling novelists, including Susan May Warren, Sherry Kyle, Renae Brumbaugh, and New York Times best-selling author Cindy Woodsmall. There are also stories by writers you may not have heard of. At the end of each chapter is an author bio that gives some background information about the author. So if you really like a story you read, you can find out what else that author has written. You may just find some new names to add to your favorites list.

And if you haven’t read much Christian fiction, this devotional will give you a small taste of several different authors and genres, without having to commit to reading an entire novel. You might just discover that you actually love Christian fiction!

21 Days of Love, a finalist in the 2017 Selah awards, makes a perfect Valentine’s Day gift for friends and loved ones.

Whisper

Whisper
Mark Batterson

About the Book:

The best-selling author of Circle Maker, which helped over 2 million people learn to talk to God, now helps readers learn how to listen to God.

The voice that spoke the cosmos into existence is the same voice that parted the Red sea, and made the sun stand still in the midday sky. One day, this voice will make all things new, but it’s also speaking to you now!

That voice is God’s voice, and what we’ve learned from Scripture is that He often speaks in a whisper. Not to make it difficult to hear Him, but to draw us close.

Many people have a tough time believing God still speaks. Sure, in ancient times and in mysterious ways, God spoke to His people, but is He still speaking now?

Mark Batterson certainly believes so. And he wants to introduce you to the seven love languages of God; each of them unique and entirely divine. Some of them you might suspect but others will surprise you.

By learning to tune in to and decipher each language, you’ll be able to hear His guidance in simple as well as life-altering choices. God is actively speaking through: Scripture, Desires, Doors, Dreams, People, Promptings, and Pain. Batterson gives you the tools you need to unlock each of these languages.

God’s whisper can answer your most burning questions, calm your deepest fears, and fulfill your loftiest dreams.

Discover how simple it is to hear God’s voice in every aspect of your life!

Food For Thought Blog Tour/Giveaway

My Review:

Food for Thought is a handy spiral bound book full of verses from Scripture to help you focus on God’s word as you try to loose weight. It includes thoughts from fellow dieters who have found the verses helpful in their journey. I honestly found this to be okay but not for me. Its great having scriptures handy when you feel you need them, but for me its great knowing I serve a God who I can call out to anytime I need help. It takes self-will, will-power to not allow food to rule your life. As long as I have God by my side and I hide his word in my heart, I know I can win the battle with food.

I received a copy of this for free, a favorable review was not required, I have expressed my honest opinion.

About the Book

Title: Food for Thought

Author: Janet Lynn Mitchell

Genre: Non-Fiction, Self-Help

Release Date: December 1, 2017

Food for Thought is filled with personalized verses just for you. It’s been written to help you claim God’s Word as your own. The thoughts included within the verses are from fellow dieters. Food for Thought is not meant to be a substitute for actual Scripture, but an addition, bringing you new insight, perspective, hope and encouragement as you move toward and reach your weight-loss goal. Blank pages have been placed in the back so that you can add additional Scripture and/or words of encouragement. Recite these verses and include them when you pray. Then watch as God’s Word rejuvenates and empowers you. Experience your faith increasing, as faith comes by hearing, reading, speaking, and living the Word of God.

About the Author

Candid, dynamic, friendly…and memorable are some of the words used to describe Janet Mitchell. Her fun, engaging style keeps her audiences wanting more. As a master storyteller, she shares her heart, passions and faith, relating incidents from her life that will touch you and make you laugh. Janet addresses relevant life issues and how it just takes one to make a difference in your world!

Janet has held staff positions with Youth for Christ and Forest Home Christian Conference Center and has served as the director of a Christian preschool. Janet is a CLASS Speaker (Christian Leaders, Authors, and Speakers) and is a popular speaker for women’s events, MOPS, family camps and single-parent groups.
As a senior in high school, Janet lost the use of her legs following surgery. On the night of her tenth surgery, she met Marty, who became her cheerleader and was alongside her as she learned to walk again. Eventually, he became her husband. Janet and Marty have been married for over thirty-five years and have three children. Janet’s knee problems reoccurred when she was thirty-two. She was horrified to learn she had been a victim of medical negligence, fraud and concealment. Her additional surgeries had been attempts to correct the mistakes. Janet has since become a voice for others who have suffered medical fraud. Assembly Bill 2571, borne out of her misfortunes, unanimously passed both the California Assembly and the Senate and was signed into state law on August 31, 2000. Her story, Taking a Stand, has motivated others to “take a stand” and remain firm in their faith through the good, bad, and the outrageous.

Janet’s book, A Special Kind of Love, published by Broadman and Holman and Focus on the Family, has been highlighted by Rick Warren in his “Ministry Toolbox.” Her Hands on Faith: Family Nights and Hands on Faith: Family Fun books by Carson- Dellosa are now available along with Janet’s five new Praying Scripture Flip Books. Janet’s Taking a Stand was released in November of 2006. It is truly a testimony of God’s faithfulness through the good, bad and outrageous. Unstuck Blog Tour with Giveaway

My Review:

If there was a book that was written for me then Unstuck is that book. Often times, I find myself dragging and feeling stuck, stuck at life, stuck trying to make something work that doesn’t and the list can go on. Unstuck by Chris Dupre is one book that I highly recommend to anyone feeling like they are stuck and don’t know what their next step is. This book has really helped me to finally become Unstuck in life!

I received a copy of this book for free a favorable review was not required.

About the Book

Title: Unstuck

Author: Chris Dupre

Genre: Self-help, personal growth

Release Date: November 14, 2017

Do you feel like you missed the boat? Are you burnt out? Have your feet been dragging the sidewalk? Do you catch yourself dreaming of what could have been? Of if-only-I-had, or if-only-I-hadn’t? This book is for anyone sitting in the audience who should be on stage, anyone reading blogs who should also be writing them, anyone supporting ministries who should be leading them. It’s for the Christians who know there is a better life, but who are just stuck in the one they’re living.

Saved in the Jesus Movement of the seventies, Chris DuPré connected with countless Christians across the world. Yet too many of those Christians, Chris discovered, have years later lost the fire and stepped back from living out their faith. Why? Because they got stuck—stuck in rejection by others, stuck in fear of the unknown, stuck in loving a comfortable life, stuck in scores of similar ruts. What can set them free from their internal prisons? And what could Christians accomplish if we all just got unstuck?

Click here to purchase your copy!

About the Author

Originally from Upstate New York, Chris moved to Kansas City to work alongside Mike Bickle in establishing the International House of Prayer. Chris recently served as Associate Pastor at Grace Center Church in Franklin TN, and is now an associate pastor of Life Center in Harrisburg, PA. A pastor, teacher, worship leader, traveling speaker, and spiritual father to many, Chris may be best known for his song “Dance With Me.” He has produced eight albums and published three books, including The Wild Heart of God (Whitaker House, 2016) and The Lost Art of Pure Worship with James Goll. Parents of three daughters and grandparents of four grandchildren, Chris and his wife, Laura, reside in Harrisburg, PA.

Guest Post from Chris Dupre

I grew up in a small town about 30 miles east of Rochester, NY. Winters there could be brutal. One year, I received beautiful new pair of boots which I loved, particularly for the joy with which they enabled me to engage in the marvelous sport of puddle jumping. One day when the ice and snow had begun to melt, I eyed a nice puddle and jumped in the middle sending a freezing splash in all directions. But wait, something was wrong — this was no ordinary puddle! This one was made to capture people, and I was captured! Frantic, I pulled one foot out, but no matter how much I tried, the other foot would not budge. My boot was stuck. I was stuck! I pulled and pulled until finally my foot came free in a soggy sock. My beautiful boot had been left behind, buried beneath the slush. My little mind was faced with a choice. Did I care enough about to do something? It only took a second to act. I loved those boots. I found a stick and began to fish. After what seemed like an eternity, I finally pulled out my boot. That’s the first time I ever went fishing and was glad to catch a boot instead of a fish.

My desire with this book is to address some of those “stuck” moments we all face. I want to provide keys that will hopefully open a door or two that have held you back on the incredible journey of life. I say a door or two, or even three, because it’s almost always more than one thing that gets us stuck. Ah, but God—He is the change factor in all of this and in Him we can break free.

There is More: When the World Says You Can’t, God Says You Can

Brian Houston

Thank you to Blogging for Books for providing me with a complimentary copy of this book. A favorable review was not required, I chose to write this review! All opinions expressed are my own.

So many times we are told that we can’t do this or we can’t do that and we believe them. We walk away and don’t think twice about it. Why do we believe this? Why don’t we just keep on trying and believing that we can succeed at something?

In There is More, Brian Houston explains that if we build our lives around godly principles, surround ourselves with wisdom, and live for a cause that is greater than ourselves, we can effectively live out God’s purposes and have and enduring impact. We have to believe our Identity comes from Jesus and not from what the world thinks of us. We each have a gift that God has given us and we need to use that gift for Him. We don’t need to believe the world, we need to believe God.

There is More releases on March 20, 2018! You can pre-order from any retail book site.

95:The Ideas That Birthed the Reformation

My Review:

I grew up in a Baptist Church not knowing anything about the Reformation or Martin Luther. I read a little about him in school but found out more when I started studying Theology at Liberty University. It wasn’t until I started attending a Methodist Church that I learned more about him. I was intrigued to get to read this book, 95 Ideas that Birthed the Reformation. I love reading Theology books and Christian Non-fiction for the simple reason, I love research and I love learning more and more about Christianity.

95 Theses was a series of statements that Luther written to express his growing concern with corruption within the church, the selling of “indulgences” to the people as a means of releasing them from acts of penitence. This book doesn’t go into deep detail over the 95 Theses but it gives you each one along with an excerpt from one of his later works to provide you with a way to understand each one of these ideas.

I really enjoyed reading 95 and will continue to read and research more about Martin Luther. This would be the perfect book for a Theology Major in your family or someone who just loves history.

I received a copy of this book for free, a favorable review was not required, I chose to write this review.

About the Book

Author: Martin Luther

Genre: Non-Fiction, Historical Theology

Release Date: August 8, 2017

In 1517, an unknown Augustinian monk, informed by his growing belief that salvation is by faith alone, published and distributed a stark criticism of papal abuses in the Catholic Church. In doing so, Martin Luther lit the spark for what would become the Protestant Reformation.

What became known as the “95 Theses” was a series of statements expressing concern with corruption within the church, primarily the selling of “indulgences” to the people as a means of releasing them from acts of penitence.

For the five hundredth anniversary of Luther’s revolutionary writing, This volume combines each thesis with an excerpt from one of his later works to provide a convenient way to understand the ideas and concepts that became the seeds of the Protestant Reformation.

About the Author

Martin Luther (1483–1546) was a German monk, priest, professor of theology, and iconic figure of the Protestant Reformation. He strongly disputed the sale of indulgences, the church’s practice of selling pieces of paper that guaranteed freedom from God’s punishment for sin. In 1517, Luther directly confronted this and other papal abuses by publishing his “95 Theses.” In 1534, Luther published a complete translation of the Bible into German.

Guest Post from Whitaker House Publishing

In 1517, a thriving new industry was sweeping northern Germany. Begun a few centuries earlier, its reappearance in the 16th century was perhaps the cleverest abuse of church power to date. Church officials strapped for cash decided to offer remission from the punishment for sins, or “indulgence,” to German believers in return for a commensurate amount of money. The slick church salesmanship of indulgences incensed one young priest, who believed that faithful Christians were being manipulated and the Word of God misinterpreted. He wrote a pamphlet comprised of 95 claims that he hoped would inspire scholarly debate. Titled Disputation of Dr. Martin Luther Concerning Penitence and Indulgences, it went down in history as “The 95 Theses.”

Most historians believe that Martin Luther did not intend to spark a public debate. It was written in Latin, the language of scholars, and pinned to the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church which served as a “bulletin board” of sorts, where Luther knew fellow theologians would see it and perhaps engage in a discussion on the topic.

Luther’s pamphlet, however, was not another piece of paper flapping in the wind. Someone translated into German, and distributed it to the public with the help of a recent invention—the printing press. Luther tried to retrieve his work, but the damage was done. Within weeks, the debate that began in Wittenberg spread throughout Germany, and within months, all of Europe.

Five hundred years later, Whitaker House presents each of Luther’s 95 Theses paired with an excerpt from his many writings. Not every excerpt directly relates to the accompanying thesis, but we endeavored to select passages in which Luther was expounding on the same subject. Where further explanation was thought necessary to contextualize his words, a footnote is included. We hope you find 95: The Ideas That Changed the World an accessible and fascinating look into the ideas of this groundbreaking priest who stood up for God’s Word, the grace of the gospel—and made history.

Growing a Strong Marriage

Growing a Strong Marriage

We all long to have a strong marriage, one that is built on trust, honor, respect, love but most importantly, Jesus Christ. Through 20 years of marriage, we have tried different things but the one thing that works is having the foundation of our marriage built on Christ. When I had the opportunity to review a new study on marriage, I jumped at the opportunity. Growing a Strong Marriage study series is a wonderful tool that I highly recommend to all married couples and engaged couples. I had the privilege to review Volume 1: Starting Strong.

Starting Strong has interviews from some famous Christian authors and leaders: Jon and Stasi Eldridge, Gary and Lisa Thomas, Art and Lysa TerKeurst, Chip and Theresa Ingram, Gordon and Gail MacDonald and Les and Leslie Parrott. This study will help you pursue deeper communication and understanding with one another. It will help you both become rooted and grounded together in Christ as well as being committed to one another.

The DVD consist of 4 sessions: How We Met, Foundation in Marriage, Identity in Christ and Paths to Christ in Marriage. With the DVD and study guide, you will learn to build a strong and solid biblical foundation with each other. Growing a Strong Marriage is the tool that I wished we would have had sooner. I am so glad we have it now.

Guest post from Roxane Battle

What this book is about is the season in my life when I was on my own and overwhelmed with trying to put my life back together while I learned how to raise a child and navigate a demanding television

career. A working, divorced single mom. That was me. For years.

There were many days when I smiled in front of the camera and cried alone at night. During those years, my time in the wilderness, I learned a lot about myself.

I am now at a point when I am able, willing, and desire to share the very personal and intimate stories of how I found peace in the midst of my struggles. I discovered what I call pockets. Pockets of joy. The kind of joy that causes your eyes to mist and wash over the hurt. The kind of joy that catches you by surprise and for a moment makes you forget, if ever so briefly, that you ever felt pain. The kind of joy that, in some ways, cannot even be described.

It is my hope and prayer my story will enable others to grasp a piece of the kind of joy I’m talking about and allow it to stir the kind of hope within that can renew and transform.

Gospel-Centered Mom

Gospel-Centered Mom
Brooke McGlothlin

About the Book:

It’s Time to Stop Trying to Be the Perfect Mom

You long to be the mom your kids need, but often you’re convinced you come up short. The label “not enough” seems to be stamped across everything you do—and yet parenting is the one thing you want most to get right.

What if the solution is simply to embrace the truth that you are not enough—but God is?

In Gospel-Centered Mom Brooke McGlothlin reveals how our entire approach to motherhood shifts when we stop chasing our vision of a perfect family and start full-out pursuing God. With refreshing candor, Brooke examines the daunting task of raising children in the light of God’s Word and challenges you to:

· embrace your moment-by-moment need for Jesus
· release the stress of believing everything is your responsibility
· learn to fight for rather than against your child
· believe that the story God is writing with your life is worth the sacrifice
· practice the daily disciplines that lead to Gospel-centered parenting

As you learn to anchor your life in the Gospel, you’ll find increased freedom, purpose, and joy in motherhood. And you’ll discover that Jesus is more than capable of meeting every need, for your children and for you.

My Review:

I can honestly admit that I am one of those mothers who is always hard on herself, tells herself you are not the mom you need or should be, and always wish that I can be the mom that I see others have. It wasn’t until I read Gospel Centered Mom that I had a new approach on being a mom. I’m not perfect and will never be, but I serve a loving God who is perfect. Brooke McGlothlin explains what happens when we stop chasing a vision of a having a perfect family and start full-out pursuing God. She talks about the task of raising children in the light of God’s word and challenges each of us to several practices like: embracing your moment-by-moment need for Jesus, releasing the stress of believing everything is your responsibility, learning to fight for rather than against your child, believing that the story of God is writing with your life is worth the sacrifice, and practicing the daily disciplines that lead to Gospel-centered parenting.

I know first hand how different your children act when you are raising them in a God-centered home. When we were doing daily devotionals, our girls listened, they did their homework, they did their chores and they enjoyed going to church. When life got to busy and we stopped the devotions things changed. That is why Daily Devotions are very important in our home.

I have found this book to be a must read for all moms. It has opened my eyes to the things that I need to start doing and to the things I don’t need to waste my time on.
