Their Daring Hearts Blog Tour/Giveaway

My Review:

When you look back at the past, you can see just how much has changed. Especially during the Civil War, women were not allowed to enlist to serve in the war, they had to stay home and do what they needed to do. But this didn’t stop a orphaned 19 year old Josephine Winters. Her hair was chopped off, she wore boy’s clothes, and they called her “Snipp.” She enlists in the Union Army. Levi Albright was a Quaker who rebelled and enlisted to fight in the Union Army. Levi doesn’t believe Snipp is old enough to hold his gun but quickly earns admiration for “his” skill with the musket.

Levi and Snipp become friends and Levi tells Snipp his story but Snipp can’t reveal hers. It’s not until Snipp is hurt during battle does her secret come out and leaves Levi angry.

This story isn’t much different then what still happens today. There are plenty of times that people pretend to be someone they are not and when the truth comes out everyone around them gets hurt. We live in a world of second chances and forgiveness. Let them explain and give them a chance. Their Daring Hearts is a wonderful story, one that you will love. This is the first book in the Forever Freedom Series and is definitely going to be a best selling series. One you will want to add to your bookshelf.

About the Book

Author: Sharlene MacLaren

Genre: Christian Historical Romance (Civil War)

Release Date: Jan 9, 2018

Levi Albright rebelled against his Quaker roots to fight for abolition in the Union army in the first year of the Civil War. Two years later, 19-year-old destitute orphan Josephine Winters, with her chopped hair, boy’s clothes, and new name, “Snipp,” enlists in the Union army out of desperation.

Just over five feet tall and barely weighing as much as a newborn calf, Snipp seems to Levi to be barely old enough to hold “his” gun. But despite being teased by the regiment, Snipp quickly earns admiration for skill with a musket and unequaled bravery. When Levi explains one night that he is a Quaker leading a regiment, it leads to a late-night discussion of faith and a developing friendship.

But Snipp’s secret can only be hidden for so long. After an injury forces Josie to reveal her real identity, Levi is angered by her deception. Worse, Josie is marched out of the company without a chance to explain—or even say goodbye. Will their friendship survive? Or will the hatred saturating the war-torn nation affect even the heart of a peace-loving Quaker?

Love’s Sweet Beginning

Sister’s at Heart Book 3

By

 Ann Shorey

*Thank you to the publisher for providing me a copy of this book for my honest review*

About the Book:

It wasn’t Cassie Haddon’s fault that she had managed to reach the age of twenty-five without possessing any useful skills. Until the war, she had always had servants to wait on her. Since then, she and her widowed mother had moved from place to place, relying on family to care for them. Now she’s forced to find work to support them both. What isn’t in her plans is falling for Jacob West, a local restaurateur and grocer. She needs a job and he needs help. But what they both need is love.

With her signature sweet romance, Ann Shorey weaves a tale of two people from very different backgrounds finding common ground and the hopes of a bright future together.

About the Author:

ANN SHOREY has been a story collector for most of her life. Her writing has appeared in Chicken Soup for the Grandma’s Soul, and in the Adams Media Cup of Comfort anthologies. She made her fiction debut with the At Home in Beldon Grove series for Revell. The Edge of Light, released in January 2009, is the first in the series, followed by The Promise of Morning and The Dawn of a Dream. Her new Sisters at Heart series for Revell debuted on January 1, 2012, with Where Wildflowers Bloom. Book Two, When the Heart Heals, will release Feburary 1, 2013.

When Ann’s not writing, she teaches classes on historical research, story arc, and other fiction fundamentals at regional conferences. She lives with her husband in Oregon. Learn more at http://www.annshorey.com.

My Review:

Love’s Sweet Beginning is the third book in the Sister’s at Heart Series by Ann Shorey. This is the first book that I have read out of this series. As I started reading this book, I felt lost that I haven’t read the other two books before this one. But after reading several chapters I became intriqued with what I was reading.

Cassie Haddon has always been used to having everything done for her. Never having to lift a finger for anything, she is what we say spoiled rotten. After her and her mom move to Noble Springs to find her uncle, she is left to support them both. Cassie goes to the Mr. West and pleads for a job, and he gives her a chance.

Jacob West owns the local restaurant and has had his heart broken by non other than Cassie’s best friend Rosemary. Jacob is interested in Cassie but is afraid to let another have his heart.

Will Jacob and Cassie fall in love? Will Cassie survive working to support her and her mother? You will need to read the book to find out. I highly recommend this book to all, especially if you love historical fiction.
