My Review:

I love Liz Curtis Higgs! I have had the opportunity to see her speak at Women of Faith and she is truly a woman after God’s own heart. She is on fire for God and lives to write books to help women be the same way. Her books have helped me in so many ways.

“Liz Curtis Higgs is one of the most amazing teachers of God’s Word that I have ever experienced. Her in-depth knowledge of the Scriptures, gifting as a communicator, and personal relationship with the Lord make her unmatched in the ability to take biblical truth and make it applicable to anybody.”

—Priscilla Shirer, New York Times best-selling author of Fervent

About the Author: 12930

Liz Curtis Higgs admits, “My goal is simple: to help women embrace the grace of God with joy and abandon!”

Her latest release, 31 Verses to Write on Your Heart, explores the favorite verses chosen by more than a thousand women. It’s Good to Be Queen encourages readers to become as bold, gracious, and wise as the queen of Sheba, who journeyed across the desert to test the mind and heart of King Solomon. Liz also offers a twenty-first century take on the book of Ruth in The Girl’s Still Got It, dishing out meat and milk, substance and style, in a highly readable, always entertaining, and deeply personal journey.

And you’ll find a heartwarming Bible study wrapped inside a beautiful gift book with The Women of Christmas. Verse by verse, Liz unwraps the biblical stories of Elizabeth, Mary, and Anna, who each welcome the Christ child into the world in a marvelous and miraculous way.

In her best-selling series of Bad Girls of the Bible books and videos, Liz breathes new life into ancient tales about the most infamous–and intriguing–women in scriptural history, from Jezebel to Mary Magdalene. Biblically sound and cutting-edge fresh, these popular titles have helped more than one million women around the world experience God’s grace anew.

Liz’s award-winning historical novels, which transport the stories of Rebekah, Leah, Rachel, Dinah, Ruth, and Naomi to eighteenth-century Scotland, also invite readers to view these familiar biblical characters in a new light.

According to Publishers Weekly, “Higgs is a stickler for period authenticity.” To that end, Liz has traveled again and again to Scotland, the setting for her novels, and has filled her shelves with one thousand resource books about Scottish history and culture.

Also a gifted professional speaker, Liz has presented more than 1,700 inspirational programs for audiences in all fifty United States and fourteen foreign countries. When the National Speakers Association honored her with the Council of Peers Award for Excellence, Liz became one of only 35 women in the world named to their CPAE-Speaker Hall of Fame.

On the personal side, Liz is married to Bill Higgs, Ph.D., who serves as Director of Operations for her speaking and writing office. Liz and Bill enjoy their old Kentucky home, a nineteenth-century farmhouse in Louisville, and are the proud (and relieved) parents of two college grads.

“I have three abiding passions: encouraging my sisters in Christ, exploring the stories of women in the Bible, and writing novels set in Scotland of old. When I’m not traveling, speaking, or spinning a story, I connect with readers online, take copious photos, read historical novels, watch period films, and immerse myself in research–the more books, the merrier. I’m a lame housekeeper, a marginal cook, and a mediocre gardener, but home is still my favorite place to land.”

My Review:

In The Women of Easter, Liz Curtis Higgs takes us deeper into the lives of three women, Mary Magdalene, Mary of Nazareth, and Mary of Bethany. Each of these three Mary’s were a part of Jesus’ life, each one has her own story to tell. One his mother, one who He cast demons out of, and one who prepares the way for His burial.

This book will give you a deeper Easter experience from one of the best Bible teachers around today. Combined with Ms. Higgs’ storytelling skills, she uses her astounded study of scripture to explore each of these women’s lives.

I really enjoyed digging deeper into the lives of these three ladies, who were there with Jesus. After reading, I have a new take on the Easter story and look forward to reading this book again and again. If you are looking for a great book that combines great Bible study with storytelling then The Women of Easter is the book for you.

Discover the Truth About
God’s Sovereignty
from the Bible’s Really Bad Girls.

Eight of the Bible’s most notorious females strut across the pages of Really Bad Girls of the Bible with troubles that still hit home in the twenty-first century.
The Medium of En Dor crossed over to the dark side. Jael stood up to a ruthless enemy. The Adulteress was caught between a rock and a hard place. Athaliah made a bid for power that ended badly. Bathsheba captured the wandering eye of a king. Herodias made a cruel request of her husband. Tamar exchanged her widow’s weeds for a harlot’s garb. And the Bleeding Woman had a serious health issue only a great physician could handle.
“Higgs does such a remarkable job telling their stories that many of the Good Book’s ‘bad girls’ become downright sympathetic.… Higgs is a refreshingly astute biblical commentator…(and) ably points readers to ‘good girl’ tips they can apply from the Bible’s cautionary tales.”
—Publishers Weekly

Mercy Like Sunlight

by

Liz Curtis Higgs

I love reading Liz Curtis Higgs books and I really enjoyed seeing her last year at Women of Faith. She is on fire for God and it shows in her books and the way she speaks. When I seen she was coming out with a new book, a novella to be specific, I couldn’t wait to read it.

Mercy Like Sunlight is a story about a woman, who lives in a old home, she has scars on her arms from where she cuts herself, and has a wounded heart, filled with grief and regret. She feels like no one cares, no one wants her around, she even has a nick name, Mad Mary. She has demons in her life that will not let her be.

Pastor Jake is walking when he runs into this lady. He is deeply moved by what he sees, someone who needs help and he is concerned with her. He is the Pastor of a small church and in time invites Mary to church. She comes but then runs out, she is scared and doesn’t know how to handle her life.

Will Mary learn to let go and let God in her life? Will Pastor Jake be able to help her find her way to God?

I love how Ms. Higgs takes the biblical story of Mary Magdalene and Jesus and turns it into a wonderful story of redemption, love and trust. You will definitely not be disappointed in this novella, I highly recommend it to all Christian Fiction lovers.
